What is Be a Voice?

Millions are unheard in their struggle for injustice. Be a Voice offers the general public a concrete way of using their freedom of speech to challenge the root causes of poverty and injustice in the world. Every 3 months participants will receive information on an issue which affects the communities that Caritas Australia works with both here in Australia and overseas. Participants will engage with suggested advocacy actions linked with the issue.

How do I get involved in Be a Voice?

If you are a Challenger you automatically receive Be a Voice alerts. If you are not a Challenger you can still be involved. Sign up for Be a Voice updates through the drop down menu WHERE

Groups

Groups are available for people who have a common interest or who just want to work together on some of their challenges. A group might be a class, a youth group, a parish group, a social justice group or a sporting group, and the list goes on. You can choose to make your group public or private and the membership open or closed (If you are under 16 you can only be a part of a closed group for legal reasons). Groups work together on a common Local, National and/or Global challenge. The group will have its own profile page which has similar features to an individual profile page.

What is the difference between a closed or open group?

An Open group can be joined by anyone who has signed-up as a challenger.

A Closed group cannot be joined by anyone who has not been invited by the group leader. The group leader can only invite people who are their Be More friends.

Challengers under the age of 16 can only be part of a closed group.

What if I do not finish my challenges by the set date?

Once you have set your challenges they will be recorded in the system which will allow for reminders to be sent to your email address, reminding that your challenge deadline is approaching. If you do not complete your challenge by your selected date, you should reflect on what has stopped you from keeping your deadline and try again!

Description of Challenges

  • A personal challenge should be just that - something personal, something only you can do to be more, to be the best you can and to make life better for you and for those around you.
  • A family challenge is one that you can complete on your own, to benefit your family, or that you can complete as a whole family activity.
  • A local challenge is a challenge that will benefit your community - your school, parish, local area, sports group, etc. Maybe you can join with others in your community to carry out your local challenge.
  • Your national challenge is a challenge that can help to make Australia a more just place for everyone. You can set an individual challenge or one that you will complete with others.

What will your global challenge be? With one simple action, what do you pledge to make a difference in the world?
