This December, all eyes will be on Copenhagen, where world leaders will meet to strike a deal that could prevent dangerous climate change. As Australia is one of the crucial players in these talks, a group of Australian NGOs, including Caritas, have come together to collaborate on a project to monitor the performance of the Australian Government and it’s negotiating team from now until Copenhagen – it’s called UN e-monitors.
So often, when it comes to climate change, politicians say all the right things, but they send their negotiation teams to these vital talks to stall, back track and waver. This can’t continue to happen. Now, with the UN e-monitors project - being run through the A Climate for Change site - they’ll know we’re watching.
By signing up to be an e-monitor, you can stay up-to-date with exactly what our nation’s negotiating team is saying on our behalf. We’ll have a monitor on the ground at all of the major upcoming UN climate change negotiations to meet with and follow our country’s negotiating team.
We will be blogging and sending you regular updates with vital, timely information on the international negotiations which you can act on to maximise public pressure on our head of state. If the negotiators become stumbling blocks to the progress of the talks, we can send urgent emails or even organise other actions to let the Government know it’s not good enough.
By working together, we can ensure Prime Minister Rudd knows that the Australian people want to see real action on climate change. Show our government that you want them to be a global leader sign up to be a UN e-monitor today.
